Had a crazy power cut last night. The power kept quickly powering on and off. The main part of the server is fine, but the both raid arrays are not at all happy.
The raid software claims it's busy doing stuff to fix it, but honestly who knows! XD
I would love to build a new server, which would make some of this maintenance simpler, but I'm not sure the budget allows for it. All my computers need updating at this point!?! About £10K would sort it all I think! XD
APC don't provide software for Linux, but there is a very good linux app called apcupsd that does everything you need, and supports many other brands too. You can add support for various linux system monitoring software too, but I don't need any of that.
I haven't seen a setting for the LEDs, but it doesn't mention that in the manual for windows either. I have set the software in linux to hopefully stop the regular beeping when it's running on battery power. If that doesn't work though I'll just open it up and disconnect the speaker! XD
It the APC Back UPS 950VA - BX950MI. It has 6 IEC outlets on the back so I bought an IEC to 4 socket extension lead to plug in my devices. It has a 12V lead acid battery, not sure of the spec but it is replaceable. It can output 520W, which is fine for my needs. It was very simple to get it connected to the server, via usb, and configure linux to make use of it. As is always the case with modern electronics the ultra bright leds on the front of it serve as a night light to illuminate the room it's in for no good reason at all :D
oh nice! Which version is it? How many sockets? And what type of battery? Replaceable battery, I presume? How much wattage can you max attach?
I NEED INFO! ;)
ARRGGHHHHH!!!! If fucking happened again last night!?!?!?! FFS!
All I know is something broke down the road, either a cable or transformer. Then last night the same thing happened again about 100 metres further along!
Annoyingly one 4TB drive is trashed, but when I remove it from the array the remaining drive mounts correctly and all is good.
I'm thinking of building a simple cheap and cheerful AMD Ryzen 5 4500 with 16Gb ram, maybe only 8Gb as I think I have some somewhere which will save £125. I'll add a couple of new 6Tb or 8Tb drives to replace the 2 4Tb drives and keep using my pair of 5Tb drives as well.
I had a UPS but it broke a while back. I had planned to fix it but life got in the way! XD Time to buy a new UPS as well!
